In this video,
βοΈ Class: 10th
βοΈ Subject: Chemistry
βοΈ Chapter: Metals and Non-Metals (Chapter 3)
βοΈ Topic Name: Difference Between Metals and Nonmetals - Metals and Non-Metals | Class 10 Chemistry Chapter 3
βοΈ Topics Covered In This Video (by Abhishek Sir): This video explains the concept of concentration of ores in terms of metals and non-metals for the academic year. It is intended for students studying at the 10th standard and covers topics covered in the Chemistry Chapter 3. The video is presented by Abhishek Sir who is an experienced chemistry teacher. He will explain the principles behind the concentration of ores, the key factors involved and methods employed while concentrating the ore. The topics covered in the video will include- types of ores, processes of concentration including hydraulic washing, hand picking, froth floatation and magnetic separation. He will also cover the chemistry involved in the extraction of metals from the concentrated ore. This video will be a great resource for students who want to understand the concept of concentration of ores and gain knowledge on the subject matter.

Difference Between Metals and Nonmetals:
Metals -
- Metals exist in solid state
Except: Hg (liq. At room temp)
Ga : 300 C
Cs : 28.50 C
Fr : 270 C
- Metals have a shining surface.
Except: Al, Mg π White
Au π Yellow
Cu π Reddish brown
- Metals are hard in nature.
Except: Alkali metals (Na, K, Rb & Cs) (soft-metals-cut by knife)
- Beaten into sheets Au & Ag are more malleable
Au: 2 Γ 10-5 mm thickness foil is derived.
- Drawn into wire Au & Ag are more ductile
Au π 2 km wire is drawn from 1 g of gold
- They have very high tensile strength.
Except: Alkali metals
- They have high m.p. & b.p.
High b.p. = 56500 C (Rhenium - Re)
Except: Alkali metals
- They have high density
Except: Alkali metals (they float on water)
- Soluble in any solvent.
- Ex: Stainless steel alloy of Ni, Cr & Fe
: German silver : Cu, Zn & Ni
- Metals are good conductors of heat & electricity.
Non-Metals -
- Non-metals exist in solid and gaseous state
Except: Br2 π is a liquid.
- They lack of luster.
Except: I2 & graphite
- Soft in nature.
Except: Diamond is the hardest substance.
- They are brittle in nature.
- They lack of malleability & ductility
- Do not possess tensile strength.
- Low M.P. & B.P.
Except: Diamond : 39300 C
Graphite : 26000 C
- They have low density.
- Soluble in particular solvents.
- Do not form
Except: carbon is alloyed with iron to form steel
- Bad conductor of heat & electricity
Except: graphite which is a good conductor of electricity
