Points covered in this video:-
Terms related to Spherical Mirrors -
1. Centre of Curvature (C):
- The centre of curvature of a spherical mirror is the centre of the hollow sphere of glass, of which the spherical mirror is a part.
- The centre of curvature is usually represented by the letter C.
- Reflecting surface of a concave mirror is towards C and the reflecting surface of a convex mirror is on opposite side of C.
- In other words, centre of curvature of a concave mirror lies in front of the mirror.
- And centre of curvature of a convex mirror lies at the back of the mirror.
2. Radius of curvature (R):
- The radius of curvature of a spherical mirror is the radius of the hollow sphere of a glas, of which the spherical mirror is a part.
- The radius of curvature is usually represented by the letter R.
- PC = R represents the radius of curvature of a concave mirror and the distance PC = R represents the radius of curvature of a convex mirror.
3. Pole (P):
- The pole of a spherical mirror is the centre of the mirror (and not the centre of the sphere).
- The pole is usually represented by the letter P.
- P is the pole of a concave mirror and P is the pole of a convex mirror.
