Points covered in this video:-
Some Terms Associated With Spherical Lenses -
I. Aperture:
- The aperture of a lens is the diameter of the circular edge of the lens.
- AB is a diameter of the circular edge of the lens, which represents aperture of the lens.
II. Centres of curvature:
- Lens whether convex or concave has two spherical surfaces.
- Each of these surfaces forms a part of a sphere.
- The centres of these spheres are called of curvature of the lens.
- They are represented usually C1 and C2 or C1β and C2β.
III. Principal axis:
- An imaginary straight line passing through centres of curvature of the two surfaces of the lens is called principal axis of the lens.
- The straight line C1C2 represents principal axis of convex lens.
- Straight line C1βC2β represents principal axis of concave lens.
IV. Optical Centre:
- The optical centre of a lens is a point on the principal axis of the lens, such that a ra of light passing through it goes undeviated, i.e., the rays passing through optical centre of the lens suffer no refraction.
- Optical centre of the lens is represented by the point C.
